Stand For A Cause!!!

This past Saturday I had a blast! If you follow me on Facebook and Twitter, you know that I was counting down to the 2012 Walk for Lupus. It was a great opportunity to walk for a cause! I was truly grateful to be a part of the event. This was my second year participating in the Lupus Walk. Lupus definitely touches close to home. Last year, I lost an amazing person, my friend Joseph "Jody" Nwosu, to this heart-wrenching disease. He made a positive impact on so many lives and will be missed beyond measure. Jody, may your precious soul continue to rest in perfect peace. We walked for you, and the more than 5 million people known to be affected worldwide. Happy Birthday Jody!!! Miss you.

 This Saturday, April 28th, is the Inaugural and Gala Ceremony of the Jody Jaz Foundation Inc. "A Universal Voice of Hope." This will be a fundraising gala in honor of Jody. All proceeds will go towards raising awareness through education, free services, hope, and therapeutic support for people living with Lupus and their families in the USA and Africa. I'm honored to have the opportunity to share a sneak peek of my Spring/Summer Uniquely Atypical collection at such a charitable event. Stand for a cause. Help us fight for the cure. Through Her Eyes

Life is so unexpected. One minute you could be fine and the next you could be fighting for your life. Once breathing smoothly and then you find yourself gasping for air to survive. Originally enunciating each word, but now your words are clearly slurred. What would you do if the doctors walked in and told you that it's rare and there is no remedy or cure to fight it? 

The day prior, you were informed that weeks remained before your unfortunate demise.Then you wake up to hear the footsteps walking ever so swiftly... closer and closer towards your door. You see the shadow through the crack and come to the realization that today will never be the same. The doctors walk in to recant what they once told you. You get the news and your heart sinks deeper than the Titanic ever could. It feels as if a grenade exploded within you, leaving you shredded to bits and pieces. 

At that moment, the weeks you were given seemed like an eternity. Your heart longed that beat, but your weeks were now days and you were scared to go to sleep. What would you do if your days were numbered? Your existence depended on a ventilator. So, trips to paradise are physically impossible.  Her request was only to see her grand children once again. 

As I gazed into her eyes, I couldn't help but to cry. A woman with a heart of gold lay before me. She was always so kind. A dove, a symbolism of peace. That's when the tears stop rolling and your reality is bitter sweet... everlasting life, your grandma will finally be at peace. No more pain. Simply enjoying in Heaven in God's humble abode. Peace at last.

The Introduction!!!

Live in Karin’s world! In the summer of 2011, Karin (the founder, owner, and designer), redesigned her birthday dress and found a true interest in designing.

In September 2011, after being in a predicament where she had an event she was obligated to attend with a strict dress code and nothing to wear, her creative gene sparked yet again. The birth of the Uniquely Atypical brand was established with her first design. For a woman who always exemplifies an exclusive sense of style, it was evident to her that designing was her niche.

Uniquely Atypical (abbreviated as UA) is the 21st century avant-garde movement, where normalcy is not an option. UA definitely pushes the boundaries of what is accepted and expected! Each piece is a reflection of Karin. What you feel you might lack, will be possessed in each garment. Uniquely Atypical can accentuate your shape and enhance your being. With her signature collar, pleats, and eclectic fabric mixtures, you will definitely become the center of attention in any room you enter! Karin’s Nigerian background definitely inspired her first piece and is often reflected in her collection.

News Just In!!!

The 2010 BET Awards Reception!

I have to start by saying that I am a big fan of Meagan Good. Her style ROCKS! I got the pleasure of meeting her at the 2010 BET Awards Reception. She had a very positive attitude and was great to converse with.  So, I am truly delighted to hear the news of her engagement. Owwww! Yes, she is getting married to DeVon Franklin! I am beyond happy for her. May God bless their union!
